having a gay marriage conversation with my former coworker
- Me: Do you support gay marriage?
- Jesse: No
- Me: Why?
- Jesse: Because I love the Lord. Just as I love every person regardless of who they are
- Me: Including gay people?
- Jesse: Yep. Which does not mean I need to support them to love them
- Me: So you love gay people but you don't want them to be married? Correct?
- Jesse: Yes
- Me: Aren't you supposed to support the people you love no matter who or what they are? Including who they want to love?
- Jesse: I don't support smoking, yet I love my brother who is a smoker, so I don't discriminate him for it.
- Me: How can you compare smoking with marriage? What if your brother was gay? Would you still love himand support him if he brought home another man and wanted to spend the rest of his life with him?
- Jesse: I would still love him and the other man but I wouldn't support it.
- Me: okay explain how you would love but not support. Because to me, support is love and love is support. Would you go to the wedding?
- Jesse: Refer to smoking text.
